I know everybody and their brother has already posted about Drew Carey being named the new host of The Price Is Right but I watched him on Letterman where he was when he found out that got the gig and he was just so darn happy it made me smile.

I love Drew Carey because to his audience he is just a pal.

Check out this video from YoutTube of Drew on Late Night with David Letterman and then I will tell you one of the funniest stories I have EVER heard…and it is about Drew Carey.

Wasn’t that great? The guy is obviously pumped.

Congratulations to Drew Carey and to The Price Is Right.

Ok,

So I am at a comedy club opening for a better known club comedian who used to open up for Drew Carey A LOT…at this particular club everyone was really great, very nice and they paid a little better than most of the one nighter gigs you get some of the time in clubs when you are just starting out…so, I am in the dressing room before the show and this veteran comedian and I are talking and he is telling stories about when he and Drew did this and that…well, he says that one night they were at a club in Travers City, Michigan and did two shows on Friday and three shows on Saturday…club owners/mangers usually pay you at the end of the last night…the comedians were waiting around for their pay and the owner says that the club didn’t break even so they were going to have to “be patient”…I guess Drew got very upset and asked well, the room was full for all five shows…people bought food and drinks, right? People paid to get in, right?

The owner didn’t budge…so Drew and this other comedian sat down at a table and talked for a few minutes…all the sudden Drew stands up and drags this other guy with up to the bar…over the bar where he starts to pour out every bottle of liquor in the place…he then walks over to the cash register, unplugs it and he and the other guy start to walk out the door with it…the owner finally sees what is going on and is VERY UPSET and demanded they put the register down…Drew said “This register is my pay…” The owner says why did you pour out all the liquor? To which Drew reportedly responds, “You can thank me later. With you having such a tough time of it in business I didn’t think it would good for you to be around liquor…you might drink real heavy and do something stupid…like pay your comedians…”

That was it, that’s the end of the story…they did not leave with the register but they did get paid.

I love Drew Carey.

There is no way for me to know if that story is true or not but it is one of the things I miss about doing clubs, hearing those sort of outrageous stories of comedians who have made it and what they did while they were still struggling.

I can’t believe that a successful comedian would want to do ‘The Price is Right.’

In fact, I can’t imagine why a successful anyone would want to do it.

Early on, I heard rumors that Mario Lopez was a strong candidate for the job. Having just witnessed Lopez as a last-minute emergency fill-in narrator for the Candlelight Processional at Epcot at Disney World, I was struck by his unexpected poise and polish. I thought, “Why would Mario Lopez take a step down–from ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ mind you–to host ‘The Price is Right’?”

Later, sports blogs were abuzz with rumors that Dan Patrick of ESPN was going to host the show. I really couldn’t see him doing that.

But Drew Carey becoming the host of ‘The Price is Right’ absolutely mystifies me.

Can anybody explain Drew’s attraction to doing this show, apart from the money they may have offered? Richard Dawson doing quiz shows makes sense to me. He wasn’t Olivier. But Drew Carey is a true comedic talent, isn’t he? It seems like a career-killer to me.

Hey Price is Right and Carey fans..I have a question for you. Why do you think that Drew would want to leave “The Drew Carey Show” to be the host of the Price? I am thinking that in a few years he will get sick of being the host because every show is like the same. It is always the same games and showcases. I miss Bob, don’t you? Ya, Drew can be really funny sometimes that can be overboard. I laugh my head off when he jumps up and down with other contestants on the stage. Good luck Drew on running the show. :)

Something to say?
