Christian Boycott of Starbucks?

Posted by Marty on May 24th, 2008

Here’s a group of people who really serve a purpose…what purpose it is is beyond me.

Boycotting is the Christian way of saying “Do it or else…” and don’t you think that is the way Jesus would deal with non-religious groups?

Me either.

Pray For One Another

Posted by Marty on May 17th, 2008

I just found this story on a news service which I subscribe to.  I subscribe to several, this story came up under the topic "Christianity."

It’s one story, but for those who may do a search for Christianity investigating the faith this is out there for them to see and I guess it isn’t bad for them to see this.  I think perhaps it is a reminder for those of us who believe that we cannot assume that just because we have the right lingo, job or family profile that we are immune to such temptations.

Good people with good intentions sometimes do horribly stupid and potentially evil things.

Lets continue to pray for one another. Also, take this opportunity to pray for and even be bold enough to talk to one another about areas of concern. It is one thing to judge someone, it is another thing to LOVINGLY inquire of them about a situation or character that may be damaging them and their walk.

Accountability isn’t just a buzz word. It is tough and it needs loving action behind it to be worth a rip.

Columbus Revival

Posted by Marty on April 8th, 2008

I just got a note from Sojourners about the upcoming revival service here in Columbus, OH at Vineyard of Columbus.

I am eager to hear Reverend Wallis preach and I am familiar with both Bishop Timothy Clark and Pastor Rich Nathan as they are local preachers that I have an enormous amount of respect for. I actually became familiar with Bishop Clark before I was a believer through my sisters church.

The focus of these services is to pray for social justice. To pray that the church would step into it’s God given role and privilege to assist and server the poor.

My thoughts are there should be NO WELFARE system in the United States and there would be no welfare system if the church would simply do it’s job.

Can we wipe out poverty? I don’t believe so but I want to be part of the group who does what I can to help curb it. We live in the richest nation in the world and it is shameful to our nation and our churches that we have ANY man, woman or child going to bed without food and proper care, if we step up our effort we can provide opportunity to these people and provide a way TO END POVERTY.

I am conflicted on some things because the Bible says to not favor someone JUST because they are poor. I am trying to understand that scripture measured against the rest of the scriptures that talk about giving, serving, caring for one another.

Here is a video promoting the upcoming revival in Columbus, OH on April 16-18. I hope you will be there!

Take a look at this video from the Christian Missionary Alliance and let me know what you think of the content…not the production value or anything of that nature…just the content of what is being said.

Follow this link to see the video. It will open in a new window…so you won’t lose your place.

A Friend?

Posted by Marty on January 14th, 2008

I LOVE THIS SONG.

I know it is from 1999 and all that but I love this song and it accurately tells people what I would say if I had ONE SHOT to let them know the character of Christ.

I know the church is not reliable and that we are prone to being full of ourselves and driven by politics, power, money while saying “To hell with those on the outside” but Jesus is an entirely different story. Jesus is a real friend who will not leave us.
