Anonymous Voice Over
Being a voice over artist, I like to keep tabs on various articles about the profession.
Just a couple of points I find interesting.
I find it interesting that everyone is getting so bent out of shape over the fact that the Chinese used one little girl to sing their national anthem while another little girl moved her lips to the song. In essence, the little girl who was not on camera was a voice over artist.
What’s the big deal? The Monkeys didn’t play their own instruments and we’ve seemingly survived the cultural assault of Milli Vanilli and C&C Music Factory.
There are plenty of reasons to dislike the Chinese government, using a little girl to paint a prettier face on their opening Olympic ceremonies isn’t one of them.

From time to time I have done political ads for candidates I endorse and then also for candidates I am not so crazy about. When you get to the level of doing voiceover ads for the United States Presidential Campaigns, you can bet your bottom dollar you need to be in that camp.
In POLITICO today there was an interesting article about the “Anonymous Female Voice” in the John McCain ads recently. And I found it intriguing that the woman’s voice is described as a voice of the “everywoman”. Interesting because my voice has been described often as the voice of your neighbor or a friend. I take it as a compliment that while my voice is professional, I never jumped into the “ANNOUNCERS VOICE SYNDROME” that so many of my former radio colleagues did.
Having a friendly, professional voice helps me remain trustworthy and great for endorsement ads or on hold messages and ads that sell services where TRUST is only able to be conveyed in the voice.
It’s late, I have had a wonderful day cutting a dozen spots and two on hold message campaigns…needless to say I am wiped out and in need of some rest.
